Dr hab. Sławomir REDO is an independent scholar, Visiting Professor of United Nations Law and member of the United Nations Studies Association.
He was a UN Senior Expert and member of staff of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). For 30 years he worked on technical assistance projects implementing United Nations law against organized crime and implementing many other UN crime prevention and criminal justice standards and norms. He wrote about 80 publications on various crime and justice issues, mostly United Nations law and practice, including cross-national crime trends, crime prevention, computerization of criminal justice, cyberspace crime, extradition, policing, principles of prosecution, judicial independence, victim compensation, the death penalty, organized crime and international and intercultural criminal justice education.
In 2016 “Springer” published a two-volume book, co-edited by him, on “Women and Children as Victims and Offenders: Background – Prevention – Reintegration Suggestions for Succeeding Generations”. It addresses this topic from the academic and United Nations perspective of sustainable development goals. In 2018 he co-edited and published with “Springer” “Refugees and Migrants in Law and Policy – Challenges and Opportunities for Global Civic Education”. In 2020, he co-edited “Crime Prevention and Justice in 2030. UN and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Essays in Honour of the United Nations” (Springer). In 2021, he co-edited “Crime Prevention and Justice in 2030. UN and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Essays in Honour of the United Nations” (Springer). In 2022 he edited the book “The Rule of Law in Retreat. Challenges to Justice in the United Nations World” (Lexington Books). In the framework of the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda, Dr. Redo teaches a course “The United Nations and Crime Prevention”, and a Socratic case-study graduate workshop on “International Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in War Crimes”.
