Spirituality and Justice
The Fourteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Kyoto, Japan 7-12 March 2021)
“From the Heart of Asia” photo exhibition
Central Asia is a territory between South-East and Asia Minor covering about 6,5 million square kilometers (2,5 million square miles) – equivalent to about 65% of the United States or 55% of Europe.
Here in the heart of Asia, part of the largest landmass on earth, spreading from northern Iran through Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Xinjiang (China), live some 100 million people who speak 1/3 of all spoken living languages in the world.
The exhibition shows inhabitants of Central Asia, their craftsmanship, customs and contemporary way of life, the beauty of its nature and architecture. The pictures were taken in the course of three years of travel through Central Asia, where I enjoyed the remarkable hospitality of its people and the authorities.
I served in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as a United Nations Senior Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Expert, with the Office on Drugs and Crime, United Nations Office at Vienna, Austria.

The photographs at the exhibition are mine and I am solely responsible for them.
